For the first time in Hill School history, three co-presidential pairs will be advancing to the final debate following the initial caucus that took place Monday on Zoom. In case you missed it, here is a breakdown of the final candidates’ platform looking ahead to April 15:
Julia Weiss ’21 and Jamie Olson ’21:
Jamie Olson ’21 and Julia Weiss ’21 are the only candidates running with previous SGA experience under their belt with Olson having served as Form Senator since 2017 and Weiss joining him in 2019. With their prior experience and different backgrounds, they are sure they can continue on their trajectory of enacting change in the community through the implementation of office hours and teacher feedback to promote grade transparency and holding both sides accountable, as well as keeping communication between the Association and the student body strong.
“Most of our ideas revolve around the theme of trying to help connect students and teachers in a way that fosters the teacher/student relationship Hill prides itself on,” Olson said.
Both candidates emphasized that they would be “more than happy” to answer any questions, address concerns, and have conversations with the student body.
Sean Parker ’21 and Lauryn Fudala ’21:
“The Hill has changed our lives,” Sean Parker ’21 said during the caucus. Parker and Lauryn Fudala ’21 both talked extensively about the positive impact the school and its role models have had on them, including current SGA President Mike Rockovich ’20, and are running in hopes to give back to the school and its members, mainly by ensuring they can be positive figures in the community.
The pair also advocated for making the SGA more accessible to the entire campus by turning the current SGA forums, where the community is invited to have a conversation or ask questions to the sitting members of the Association, into school-wide events to promote transparency and collaboration.
“Everything comes from the heart,” Parker said. “We are running because we are deeply passionate about this community.”
Andrew Chirieleison ’21 and Sasjha Mayfield ’21:
Communication, transparency, and ability to perform were at the forefront of Andrew Chirieleison ’21 and Sasjha Mayfield’s ’21 performance on Monday. The two focused on their desire to revamp the SGA Open Forums to make them a more prominent aspect of the student experience, as well as enact change in daily life at Hill by updating washers and dryers to quarter free, permit earrings for male students, and bring back the Pottstown Cares program.
“Andrew and I are extremely genuine and hardworking. We have poured ourselves into every aspect of Hill life imaginable up until this point because we love this community,” Mayfield said. A large portion of the pair’s time in the caucus spotlight was spent discussing both Mayfield and Chirieleison’s varying roles on campus, however, they are confident they can fully rise to the occasion.
“Sasjha and I both really care about this community and look forward to contributing our time and services next year whether we win the election or not,” Chirieleison said.
“Our main goal is to make sure all our peers feel heard and represented, and Andrew and I know we’re the best pair to accomplish that,” Mayfield said.
