New faculty members are joining The Hill School’s community this year. The new faces are: Christopher Chirieleison ’85, Adam Salo, Elena Dauphinais, Ernest Higginbotham, and Brett Dioguardi..
After Chirieleison graduated from Hill in 1985, he studied political economy at John Hopkins University. Chirieleison then taught economics and history at Hill from 1991 to 1997. He also was the Assistant Director of Admissions and Dean of Students.
“I’ve always loved Hill,” Chirieleison said. “My favorite memories relate to experiences I had with outstanding teachers.”
Chirieleison is an Athey Family Master of history and instructor of economics. He will also coach boys’ varsity lacrosse this spring.
Salo has 12 years of professional journalism and media experience. He graduated from American University with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and secondary education and later taught at an elementary school.
Salo then attended Temple University to pursue a master’s degree in journalism and began as a magazine contributor before working for ESPN. He recently worked for Katie Couric on Yahoo! News.
“I’ve been wanting to find my way back into education for a couple of years now, and Hill was the perfect fit,” Salo said. “I can lend my experience in journalism to the classroom and on The Hill News.”
Salo teaches english and journalism, is an adviser to The Hill News, and will coach swimming this winter. He is also a dorm parent in Senter.
Dauphinais grew up in a small town in New Hampshire before studying French, Spanish, and Arabic at St. Lawrence University. She then pursued a Master of Science degree in childhood education at Utica College while coaching soccer there.
“When I came to Hill, the students and faculty seemed very passionate. They care about what they are doing,” Dauphinais said. “I loved how involved the community is, and how everyone is focused on improving themselves. That is exactly what I wanted to be a part of.”
Dauphinais teaches Spanish 1 and 2 and is a coach for varsity girls’ soccer and track and field.
Higginbotham graduated from Williams College in 2014 with a degree in mathematics. He coached football at Williams and club and middle school lacrosse in Delaware before working for Vanguard in Malvern.
Higginbotham teaches Pre-Calculus and Integrated Math 22. He also coaches boys’ varsity football and will coach boys’ JV basketball this winter.
Dioguardi grew up in South Florida and attended an environmental research and field studies academy for high school.
He then graduated with a master’s degree in biology from Davidson College in 2007.
Dioguardi has worked as a special projects facilitator for TOMS Shoes and most recently an environmental impact coordinator for Chipotle Mexican Grill.
Digouardi teaches environmental science and is the new High Meadows Foundation Chair of Sustainability. He also coaches varsity football and is a dorm parent in Upper School West.
