As announced at lunch by head Fellows Tim Solanki ’18 and Larry Lo ’18, a new Modern Language Fellows program will begin at The Hill School, joining the established Writing and Classic Fellows.
Similar to the other Fellow programs, the Modern Language Fellows will be on the first floor of the Ryan Library almost every night to answer questions or provide assistance in French, Spanish, Chinese or Arabic. Despite the program’s youth, it already boasts 17 fellows, in addition to a clear vision for the future.
“I envision this program to be something that lasts,” Solanki, the program’s founder, said. “Our goal is to see it become a well established and useful tool to improve students’ understanding of the languages and cultures they are studying”.
All 17 Modern Language Fellows are fluent in their language, with a diverse group of native speakers and students who have completed classes in the highest levels in their language.
“I know that language learning is not an easy task,” Solanki said. “However, learning from your peers who have been in your shoes can be motivating.”
Equipped with a concept and a group of passionate and resourceful students, the Modern Language Fellows program is ready to make an impact at the school this year, and for many years to come.
