2020-21 3rd Form SGA Candidate Statements

*Editor’s Note: On Friday, Oct. 9, the annual Student Government Form Senate elections will commence for the 3rd Form. Four members of the Class of 2024 have submitted candidate statements and will participate in a debate followed by a class vote. You can find their statements below.

Carrington Bernabei ’24 | Lancaster, PA

Hi, I’m Carrington and I’m running for Third Form Senator. This is a unique and crazy year, but I really want to be a part of the team that works to make it every bit as filled with energy and school spirit as prior years for everyone. Even though this is my first time on campus, I can already feel the energy and spirit of Hill students. Seeing groups of friends (socially distanced of course) have deep talks on the pitch and being a part of the excitement of the tennis team inspires me to work to make Hill even better than it already is. Obviously, this year is tough for everyone, and it hasn’t been easy to get to know people. However, I really want to make it a mission to unify the student body and really focus on themes of empathy and kindness. During tough times like these, we need to unite all Forms to really work as a ‘team’. For the past three years, I have been a part of the student government at my middle school. I was class representative for both 6 and 7th grade and was voted class president for 8th grade. I am great at communicating well with others, and I love to get feedback and listen to all your ideas. I think it’s very important to be flexible and collaborate with others when it comes to forming new ideas. I am very creative and hardworking, and I hope to work with the 3rd form and let their voices be heard. Despite the challenges we are working through this year, I will make it my mission to work to bring the whole school together and create the great year we want it to be. Go Rams!

Amanda Hudak ’24 | Pottstown, PA

Social Distancing. Masks. One way hallways. Trace. Trackers. These will all go away if you vote for me. Just kidding! Of course I couldn’t do that and I wouldn’t want to because that’s what’s allowing us to be together. Although this is our reality at the moment, this is not what defines us. The sense of community and the kindness we show each other is what makes Hill Hill. We’ve only been in class for a few weeks but I am already starting to feel like part of a family. Choosing a senator is a very difficult thing to do at the start of our Hill career. We are just getting to know each other and form close friendships, so how are you supposed to know who is right for the job? I’ll tell you why I’m the right fit. My name is Amanda Hudak and I am running for the 3rd form class senator. Many of you are able to spot me easily on campus because of my dog Juno. Here’s a few other things to know about me: I am a member of the outstanding jazz ensemble, am playing tennis for the first time, and love to bake people sweet treats. Since I’ve lived on campus for almost 5 years, it’s a strange feeling to have my neighbors suddenly turn into my teachers, but this only makes the sense of FAMILY stronger.

Now, I’ll keep this short and simple; I have exactly four adjectives to describe why you should vote for me as SGA Senator. These four words happen to spell out the word “True” as in The Hill School’s Motto “Whatsoever things are true.”

T for trustworthy
R for responsible
U for understanding
E for enthusiastic

If you were to ask any of my friends, they’d “hopefully” say that these are accurate descriptions of me that I live out each day. I’m not going to make any promises, especially in this crazy year, but vote for me and I promise I will always be true.

Ella Lee ’24 | Larchmont, NY

My name is Gabriella (Ella) Lee and I am a third form student at the Hill from

Larchmont, NY. I am the proud roommate of Katy Gray and I live in Scheerer in Dell Village. I want to participate in the Student Government Association because I know that now more than ever good leadership is essential in all aspects of life. I want everyone to have the reassurance that they are well represented among all forms and faculty here at The Hill. I believe I can take on the leadership position of Third Form Senator because I take great pride in my ability to encourage others and make sure nobody is isolated as a student, a friend, or a person. I hold myself accountable to always try my best in all things and encourage others to do so as well. I am very open-minded to new ideas and opinions, and try my best to be kind, socially aware, and outgoing, but most importantly: approachable. Because we are the youngest students on campus, we may often feel underrepresented as a form. I can assure you that if I were to be given the honorable role of Third Form Senator, I would hear all voices and opinions of my peersIt would be a tremendous honor and privilege to serve the school as a Third Form Senator and I would really appreciate your support. Thank you.

Mason Moore ’24 | Rehoboth Beach, DE

Hello, my name is Mason Moore, and I am a 3rd form boarding student from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. First off, I want to say how much of an honor it is to be running for the male senator position of the 3rd form.

Although we have only been on campus for roughly four weeks, I have had the pleasure of meeting so many of my fellow classmates. Our grade is comprised of so many talented students, including artists, journalists, athletes, and really smart people!

I want to be on the SGA to represent my form and help relay your opinions and concerns to the rest of the SGA. My goal as the 3rd form senator is to make Hill not only a better school, but a better environment for my peers to thrive in. I believe I’m the best candidate to represent my form, because I consider myself a very outgoing person, and my classmates will attest to that. If elected I would strongly encourage every student of our grade, to come and inform me of any tiny hiccups they’re experiencing or even bigger issues/concerns they have. I wish the best of luck to everyone running for this position.
