Chanel Erasmus will be joining The Hill School this year as the new director of squash.
Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Erasmus came to the United States to play squash for Trinity College. Erasmus won the national championships in both squash and rowing.
After she graduated from Trinity in 2015 with a bachelor’s in performing arts, Erasmus was a volunteer assistant coach for Trinity’s squash and crew teams for two years.
She also helped run and commentated for professional squash tournaments.
In June 2015, Erasmus was featured in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd.”
After living in Hartford, Connecticut for five years, Erasmus decided to make the move to Pottstown.
“The warmth, positivity and drive that exists here at Hill makes it a perfect place to work at and a perfect environment to be part of,” Erasmus said.
As the school year approaches, Erasmus said she looks forward to becoming a part of the Hill family.
She is excited to work with the squash and rowing teams, and looks to fashion a student body that “stays intellectually curious, is hard working and most importantly, is kind.”
“[Erasmus] seems dedicated and very experienced. She’s come to the program with a lot of energy, already setting up a very serious fall preseason for us,” Lou Alpert ’18 said. “Her passion for squash is more than evident and it feels like a breath of fresh air for the program.”
Other than her position as the director of squash, Erasmus will be the head varsity coach for the boys’ and girls’ squash teams and she will also coach varsity crew.
She will be working in the Advancement Office and serving as a dorm parent in Foster.
