This winter, the Boys’ and Girls’ Squash team are coming to life with a new Head Coach, Chanel Erasmus. The boys’ varsity team has won their first two games with decisive 8-1 victories, and the girls’ varsity team went 1-2 at the Flanagan Tourney in Mercersburg.
Erasmus has been working to bring new vigor to the team.
“She brought an entirely new energy and devotion to the team and game.” said squash captain Lou Alpert ’18. “We have lots of conditioning and excitement about the program on social media.”
Over the course of the Winter season, however, the team will face stiff competition from mainline schools and Lawrenceville.
“I think we’re a strong team.” said Alex Wisneski ’18, a Varsity squash player. “But the mainline teams are really strong. There will be some good upcoming matches.”
“We have some tough matches, and we’re just going to try to go out and play our best.” said Alpert. “If we can keep it up, hopefully we will win half our matches this year. That would be great.
The team competes in the MAPL league, and will play in the U.S. National High School Tournament, where they ‘will compete against some of the best high school teams in the country’. The team benefits from Hill’s close proximity to Philadelphia, which is the epicenter of squash playing in the United States.
