Laurel House is a non-profit domestic violence agency serving people all over Montgomery County Pa. This weekend, they will hold their annual “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes”  Men’s March, where men will march in solidarity with women who have experienced domestic violence. All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting Laurel House’s domestic violence shelter and supportive services.

“Their mission is to be able to offer a safe, comforting place for abused women and their children to go to in times of need as well as be the local agency that can advocate for the need of a social change against domestic violence,” Amanda Hudak ’24 stated.

Ariston Goeke ’24 and his family have been close with Laurel House. He encourages people to participate not only in the “Walk A Mile” event but in other events and the organization as a whole as well.

“My family has been close to the foundation for a couple years now. The Walk a Mile event is just one way you can start to help out the Montgomery community through the Laurel House,” Goeke ’24 said. “There are other events you can participate in, you can donate things to them to help support the shelter, but the Walk a Mile event is just the start.”

Hudak said that as one of their most popular fundraising events, “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” has people walk a mile in high heels, which symbolizes support for women that experienced domestic violence. Each year it helps 1,700 people and aids them by providing diversified services.

The fundraiser is on Saturday, May 7th at 9 a.m., and those interested are highly encouraged to participate.
