Going to a boarding school can be difficult for international students, especially during a pandemic. Valentina de Carvalho, a new 5th former, lives in Brazil and is a remote student this year.

“I’ve definitely enjoyed having more types of classes. Here in Brazil, we have the same schedule for all of the students, so we don’t have the possibility to choose the classes we want to do. I think it’s really cool to be allowed to choose and try a lot of new things.”

Adjusting to a new school and having to be a remote student has definitely been a struggle. However, De Carvalho still continues to hold her head up high and look at the positives.

She hasn’t been able to fly to the United States due to her postponed visa interview resulting from the ongoing pandemic. De Carvalho is planning on joining the Hill community sometime in October.

“I’m new; so I’ve never been to the Hill; so I wish I could have met new people and just talk and see the campus. It’s those little things I wish I could have had.”

De Carvalho is very excited to see the campus and engage in the Hill community when she is able to come to the United States.
