The 3rd form recently elected Richard Liu ’26 and Srindhi Pasumarthy ’26 as their SGA representatives following a long process of debates and caucuses.

After two separate intensive selection rounds, in the form of a caucus and a debate, the 3rd form elected Richard Liu ’26 and Srindhi Pasumarthy ’26 as their new SGA representatives.

Only six candidates, three female and three male moved onto the SGA debate on October 12 following the caucas. The purpose of the SGA debate was to allow 3rd form students to learn more about the candidates and their plans for the form.

“I think that every candidate gave a very well-prepared speech and there were a lot of very good proposals, a lot that I personally did not think of because I was basically standing from a perspective of an international student.” Lola Ge ’26, one of the candidates said.

SGA held the debate in the CFTA in order to seat the entirety of the 3rd form. Unlike the caucus, all 3rd form students and candidates were present.

“I loved how it was required, so everyone had to be there. So it wasn’t that some people weren’t there and some people were there, cause I felt like that gave an unfair advantage to some people as some of the people that they campaigned with were there, but the people that other people campaigned with weren’t there,” Pasumarthy said.

During the debate, candidates were given the opportunity to ask questions to their fellow contenders. “It’s interesting because you don’t have to ask a question, and sometimes it’s better not to ask a question” Liu commented.

Pasumarthy found the debate to be exciting. “ I really liked how we had chances to give rebuttals and ask questions because I feel like that gave candidates a chance to learn more about each other’s opinions as we are also voting, and also for other 3rd formers to learn more,” she said.

Regarding the questions asked during the debate, Liu said, “I think they do demonstrate our strengths, like from the different ways you approach the question.”

Following the debate, 3rd form students received a form online where they rank their choices for female and male candidates.

At the end of the weekend, after lunch on Monday, it was announced by the SGA co-presidents that Liu and Pasumarthy emerged as the top choice 3rd form representatives.

Both Liu and Pasumarthy did not previously work closely together. “It’s a process and I believe that we’ll have plenty of time to work together in the future. And I believe that we both have the same goals to improve the form, so I think it’s gonna be easy for me to work with her and I think it’s gonna be great,” Liu said.

The two victorious candidates were eager to discuss their plans for the year. Their first priority: ensure that the voice of the 3rd form student body is heard.

“We want to definitely put out emails, put out surveys. Anonymous surveys were something that we definitely got a lot of popular interest on. People really wanted anonymous surveys and also definitely doing cooking.” Pasumarthy said.

Additionally, Liu has hopes to initiate changes to student life. “I have plans like switching the dress code and organizing more third form activities, like weekend activities,” Liu said.

Liu and Pasumarthy both have big plans to improve the Hill experience for the 3rd formers. “I think that both of us really want to make sure that what the student body wants actually happens. We work for the 3rd form. With the 3rd form.” Pasumarthy concluded.
